Bahá’í wins “Women helping women” award

United states:- The Principal Representative of the Bahá’í International Community to the United Nations, Bani Dugal, has received a “Women Helping Women” award from Soroptimist International. The award came in weeks leading up to International Women’s Day on March 8. “Women Helping Women” is one of three awards offered under an umbrella program, “Making a Difference for Women,” established in 1986 by the Soroptimists to acknowledge those who work to improve the status of women in society. Soroptimist International is a 70-year-old volunteer service organization for women.

Hari Wanita Malaysia 2000

In conjunction with the Hari Wanita 2000 several programs were organised by the The Women’s Affairs Department (HAWA) under the Prime Ministers Department, at The Kuala Lumpur “Suria Twin Towers fot three consequative days from the 27th to 28th August 2000. The theme for this year’s Hari wanita is “Nur-Bermula denganmu”(The Light - It begins With You.) Several organisations took part in the events. Among them was The Bahá’í Office for Advancement of Women (BOAW).

Within six weeks the Bahá’í youth put together a one hour presentation with the Theme “From Chains To Change” in the Celebration of Wanita 2000. They performed several items namely, a dance called Breaking The Chain Prejudice”, a Step Dance, “The Change-The Light of Unity, a song from the Choir group and a Zipoppo Show called “The Love Chain-If you love me…”

From 30 November till 8 December, two members of the BOAW, Maria Peter and Dayang Genam of Kuching conducted a women’s conference at Bintulu Bahá’í Centre and a course on Guidance for Bahá’í Marriage and Government Laws at Rh. Kampung Ensika hosted Women’s Conference

“Those present participated well and particularly the youth from Kg. Belimbing Besi who produced very nice devotional meeting and were a good example for youth from Ensika through their songs and chanting. The conference was shortened and the youth from Ensika (some from Kuching) were encourage to return with the youth from Kg. Belimbing to learn songs from them and also to attend Ruhi Book 1 and Book 2, if possible
