1st IGP in Sarawak Launched

After much preliminary discussion, consultation and preparation, the first ever Intensive Growth Programme (IGP) for Sarawak was successfully launched for the Kuching-Padawan-Samarahan cluster in the evening of 25 March 2005 amidst much fanfare in an inspiring candle-lighting ceremony. More than 60 friends came for the launching held at the Kuching Baha’i Centre.

This launching was the culmination of many meetings, the first of which was held on 5 March at the start of the fasting month of Ala. In that first meeting, held at the Kota Padawan Baha’i Centre, Counsellor George Soraya spoke and inspired the more than 40 people present to realise the potential and capability of the community to launch an Intensive Growth Programme for the cluster.

Home-front Pioneering To Mukah

There is now opportunity for Baha’is to pioneer to Mukah. There, the believers are mainly from Mukah Town, Kampung Tellian Ulu and Longhouses along Mukah Beach. The believers are of Melanau and Iban backgrounds. The Chandrans (originally from Malacca) have been home-front pioneering here since 1986.

Children’s Classes are conducted at the Baha’i Centre, Kampung Tellian Ulu, Mukah. It is normally held on Sundays for a period of 1 hour. About 30 non-Baha’i (Melanau) children from Kampung Tellian Ulu attend the class. It is taught in Malay by both Mr. & Mrs. Chandran based on Ruhi Book 3. There is potential for this class to flourish. The children have been showing great interest. However the local Baha’i community does not seem to generate enough human resource in terms of trained teachers to sustain it.
