Winter School at Sematan Beach
A very successful Winter School was held at Sematan Beach from 6 – 9 December 2002. It was attended by about 180 Baha’is and was graced with the presence of Counsellor George Soraya, Auxiliary Board Members Bunsie Tunton, Kalong Katik, Rahmi Kho and most members of the National Spiritual Assembly of Sarawak.
There were two separate programs arranged—one for children and one for youth and adults. The children’s program was conducted by the National Child Education Committee and attended by 29 children. The youth and adult program included session on child education, the institute process and many other current subjects. Evenings were reserved for performing arts, quiz shows, bonfires and so on.
The Winter School was held at the Holiday Chalet Sematan resort, directly on Sematan Beach. The 21 chalets were adequate for the winter school requirements. The 5-acre resort was fenced up and entrance from the two gates was easy to monitor. Meals were prepared for those who required at cost of RM15 per person. A registration fee of RM5/person was charged for incidental expenses, stationery, etc. Transport to & from the Bahá’í Centre in Kuching was provided at a cost of RM10/person. 49 people took advantage of this service.
