Institute Campaign for the Youth

16 July 2008 No Comment

In Serian-Bukar Sadong Cluster
The journey started with eight youths from Bau, Lundu and Kuching, traveling together from Kuching to Serian on 23 November. In Serian we were joined by another group of nine youths and we stayed at Ellen Joseph’s residence before proceeding to our first destination, Kampung Bugu Mawang the next morning.

Book 1 course started with 11 Bahá’í youth and a Christian friend with myself and Poly Jampang as tutors. The course was held during day time only. At the same time children’s class and junior youth class were conducted by Calstino and Hartini. They were assisted by Erwina and Dovin. In the evening, workshop on arts was held whereby the youth were taught how to chant prayers, songs, games and dances. Besides that we also visited and prayed for a friend who was ill. He passed away a week later.

Besides building closer rapport with the hosting Bahá’í community we also share the Teaching with the Christian community. Before leaving Bugu, we had arts performances on the last night.

In Kampung Mayang Tea, Book 1 and Book 2 were conducted with 8 and 1 participants respectively. The course was held during the day time and evening as well and hence no “social night”. The children enjoyed attending classes conducted by Calstino.

Our last destination was Kampung Mujat. The campaign mood intensified as the program include Book 3, Book 4 and Book 6. Children’s classes were held daily during the campaign. Book 3 and Book 6 started on 9 December after which we all took a day off and went for jungle tracking and picnic at a nearby waterfall. Book 4 commenced soon after. The Bahá’í community here is well developed and the children are well-trained and able to chant prayers impressively.

The one-month long campaign held in different communities had provided the participants a wonderful opportunity to build stronger relationship among themselves as well as with the villagers of the hosting communities.

In the Northern Region
From Rumah Anom, Long Tisam, Mr. Usam Angking wrote that a group of youth from Miri comprising of Jacklyn, Rhymos, Augustine Jawa and Rebecca Sebastian conducted Book 1 and Book 2 in their longhouse commencing 1 till 7 December 2003. 7 believers participated in Book 1 and 7 in Book 2.
