Bahá’ís Paid a Courtesy Call on YB

A Bahá’í delegation, consisting of three members of the Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’í of Sarawak, namely, Mr.Yong Kiong Choon, Mr.Tipik Ladi, and Mr.Chin Chia Chau, and Auxiliary Board Member Dr. Shehab Phung and National Coordinator Ms Geriti Katik, paid a courtesy call on YB Dato’ Yong Khoon Seng, Member of Parliament for Stampin and a Parliamentary Secretary of Works on the 30 December 2006 at SUPP Service Centre, Golden Arch, Mile 3, Kuching.
The delegation was warmly received by the YB and his assistants, and took the opportunity to explain to the YB about the youth empowerment program, which is presently being carried out by the Sarawak Bahá’í community and is open to any youth irrespective of race or religion.
Dato’ Yong was also told of the needs to train more youth facilitators for the program, the aim of which is to imbue the youth with moral values and stress on them the need to serve their fellow human beings regardless of their religious background. He expressed his support and pledged RM5,000 as a contribution to cover part of the expenses for such a training.
Towards the end of the visit, the delegation presented the YB with three books on junior youth empowerment program. These books are Breezes of Confirmation, Walking on the Straight Path and Drawing on the Power of the Word.
The YB is very sympathetic with the plight of the younger generation. He expressed great concern with the plight of some of the Iban youth who are now working in the towns and wasted a lot of their hard-earned money on alcohol. He was very happy to note that the Bahá’ís are not allowed to take alcohol.
