An old friend came a-calling

Walter Nusslein, a Baha’i from the town of Hassfurt, Germany, was in Kuching last September to meet up with friends. He came with his wife, Veronica, a native Kayan from the upper Baram River, and their 4 children, three of whom were born in Sarawak.
Walter came to Sarawak more than 20 years ago as a surveyor attached to the Public Works Department under a German technical exchange programme. While serving in the Niah area in the interior region of Sarawak, he met up with a young Baha’i teacher. This young Baha’i teacher was none other than Tipik Ladi, the present Secretary of NSA Sarawak.
It was in this first meeting that Walter heard about the Baha’i Faith for the first time. Subsequent meetings between the two ended with Walter becoming a Baha’i after he was posted to Kuching where he had the chance to meet some other Baha’is. Walter was later transferred to Kuching. While working in Kuching, Walter was very actively involved in Baha’i activities. He made numerous trips to Kpg Selampit, Kpg Belimbing Besi and surrounding native communities in the Serian District.
Since leaving Sarawak more than 10 years ago, Walter has been keeping in touch with the friends here.
