Kampung Ensika hosted Women’s Conference
From 13-15 December, the Bahá’í Office for the Advancement of Women organized a conference at Kampung Ensika, Sebangan. From Kuching, members of the committee attending the conference included Nyamut Gelai, Annie Kudang and Grete Fozdar and a few youth. Total attendance for the weekend event was 14 adults and 16 youth, which include 12 from Kg. Belimbing Besi, Sebuyau.
The first evening program was open to all Bahá’ís but only a few men attended. The program proper started at 8 a.m. the next day. Topics covered included A New Mindset, Three Core Activities - whereby all were encouraged to join study circle and devotional meetings and the children to attend children’s classes, Why We Have Separate Activities for Women, Bahá’í Marriage and Bahá’í Funds. In the evening, the participants watched a video cd on the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Bahá’í Faith in Sarawak.
“Those present participated well and particularly the youth from Kg. Belimbing Besi who produced very nice devotional meeting and were a good example for youth from Ensika through their songs and chanting. The conference was shortened and the youth from Ensika (some from Kuching) were encourage to return with the youth from Kg. Belimbing to learn songs from them and also to attend Ruhi Book 1 and Book 2, if possible… Being the height of durian season and for some other reasons, attendance of the target group of women was limited. Collection for subsidy of food expenses was RM65. The Local Assembly decided to cover all expenses from their own local fund and contribute the full amount to the National Fund.”
