Merdeka Day Devotional Gathering

26th August 2001, Vistana Hotel, Kuala Lumpur - In response to the call of Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Art for organizations to organize prayer meetings for Merdeka Day, the Bahá’ís of Kuala Lumpur organized a public devotional meeting. About 250 Bahá’í and their invited friends attended the function.

The representative of the Bahá’ís of Kuala Lumpur, Ms Yuet Mei Nambiar spoke on the purpose of the function and the principles of the Bahá’í Faith that relates to loyalty to the Government.

This was followed by a keynote address by the guest of Honour, Dato’ Lee Lam Thye. Dato’ Lee Lam Thye, a prominent thinker and social worker in Malaysia was pleased to know that the Bahá’ís were aware of national unity and knew the meaning of Merdeka. This is the second Prayer gathering held by the Bahá’ís. He also spoke on the need to inculcate moral values into the people of Malaysia.

A well-arranged devotional program followed shortly after the keynote address. The program that consisted of prayers, readings, chanting and music had the guest sitting very attentively and listening to every word from the Bahá’í Holy Writings.

The followers of the various Interfaith Spiritual Fellowships, which consists of Christians, Buddhists, and others, also graced this occasion.
